Update

So today I remembered that wonderful thing called technology, and wala, I now have a picture of the dress I made yesterday! And this isn't a picture off the web, this is one I took (be impressed).

On the Sewing Front

Well, I can't find any pictures, but I wanted to let you know that I sewed a dress last night out of the black and white diagonal check fabric! I really like it. I used a 1977 original pattern. It was meant to be a beach dress but it was for stretch knits and it is very modest, so no one will know... except you! I think I will get some black spandex to make a pair of leggings and use the extra to bind off the arm holes. So now I have a dress and a pair of pants... good thing summer is four months away still :) Well so long chums,

Cute

When I saw this on a beautiful mess it made me think of me and my sister fifteen years ago. We each had a doll that we dearly loved, and our mother would make us matching outfits and all sorts of fun things like that. Why did we grow up? Sometimes it makes me sad, but it's fun to see other little girls enjoying dolls so much. Hop on over and check it out!

Cool people, cool business

I just spent the afternoon with a couple really cool people. My friend Kathryn had some friends up for a special event, who happen to be my friends as well! What a good combination. Well, this lovely lady has a pretty cool home business making things out of license plates. Here are some pictures, but you should check out her etsy store as well.

Adventure Part Three

Guess what came today? Yes-sir-ree. My fabric and by Hanna Andersson pants. I can't wait to start my new adventure (although where I'll find time for that is anybody's guess! The fabric was mostly what I imagined it would be, if not better, so that's always nice. Anyway, thought you might like to know!

New Monday

Well friends, today was not what my typical monday has been in the past... no. There was no pioneer clubs,  no snow, and cleaning in place of the two. So, I am trying to reacquaint myself with the new monday. It is nice, however,  to leave my cleaning and feel I have made a difference in the domestic world. Yes, I like that very much!

Today's Scripture

                                                                     ~Revelation 22~

22 Then the angel1 showed me xthe river of ythe water of life, bright as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb through the middle of zthe street of the city; aalso, on either side of the river, bthe tree of life2 with its twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit each month. The leaves of the tree were cfor the healing of the nations. dNo longer will there be anything accursed, but ethe throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and fhis servants3 will worship him. gThey will see his face, and hhis name will be on their foreheads. And inight will be no more. They will need no light of lamp jor sun, for kthe Lord God will be their light, and lthey will reign forever and ever.

Jesus Is Coming

And he said to me, m“These words are trustworthy and true. And the Lord, the God of nthe spirits of the prophets, ohas sent his angel to show his servants what must soon take place.”
“And behold, pI am coming soon. qBlessed is the one who keeps the words of the prophecy of this book.”
I, rJohn, am the one who heard and saw these things. And when I heard and saw them, sI fell down to worship at the feet of the angel who showed them to me, sbut he said to me, “You must not do that! I am a fellow servant4 with you and your brothers the prophets, and with those mwho keep the words of this book. Worship God.”
10 And he said to me, t“Do not seal up the words of the prophecy of this book, for the time is near.11 uLet the evildoer still do evil, and the filthy still be filthy, and the righteous still do right, and the holy still be holy.”
12 “Behold, vI am coming soon, wbringing my recompense with me, xto repay each one for what he has done. 13 yI am the Alpha and the Omega, zthe first and the last, athe beginning and the end.”
14 Blessed are those who bwash their robes,5 so that they may have the right to cthe tree of life and thatdthey may enter the city by the gates. 15 eOutside are fthe dogs gand sorcerers and the sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices falsehood.
16 h“I, Jesus, have sent my angel to testify to you about these things ifor the churches. I am jthe root andkthe descendant of David, lthe bright morning star.”
17 The Spirit and mthe Bride say, “Come.” And let the one who hears say, “Come.” And nlet the one who is thirsty come; let the one who desires take the owater of life without price.
18 I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: pif anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book, 19 and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his share in qthe tree of life and in rthe holy city, which are described in this book.
20 He who testifies to these things says, “Surely sI am coming soon.” Amen. tCome, Lord Jesus!
21 The grace of the Lord Jesus be with all.6 Amen.

Adventure Part Two

So, here are the fabrics that I ordered today to start my summer wardrobe! I can't wait until they come, I'll give you a little description of what each fabric is like, and what I'll use it for. Here we go...

This is a stretch rayon jersey knit in apple green that I will be making a tank top out of...

I want to use this Jersey ITY for a cheery comfortable t-shirt...

This is my favorite, I plan to use this 100% organic cotton french terry to replicate Hanna Andersson's Survivor Jacket!

This also 100% organic cotton will make a nice dressy t-shirt...

And I haven't decided if this knit Jersey will be a skirt or a t-shirt yet. Time will tell.

I think the best part about sewing is the creativity that goes in to planning your projects. Plus the added bonus that the total cost of all this together didn't even equal one survivor jacket from Hanna Andersson  and I got to pick the exact colors that I wanted. I also have a pair of navy blue jersey knit crop pants that I have already made and a pair of black crop sweat pant from H.A. to add to my collection. To see my inspiration go to hannaandersson.com and check out the new spring digital catalogue page 40 and 41. Enjoy!
Love,
~Cherry~

Fun with the kids

Ever wonder what a house full of little kids, pop and pizza would look like? Well, I had the wonderful opportunity to experience that very thing tonight. The two speakers for the weekend, their wives and children all came over for a fun evening before the weekend kick off. I hope the whole weekend is just as much fun!

Current reading

If you ever need a book that you can read when you know you need a laugh, let me introduce to you P.G. Wodehouse's classic series with Jeeves and Wooster. They are hilarious, ridiculous, witty, and altogether fun to read. You will soon find yourself in the world of Stilton, Florence Cray, Boko Fittleworth and many other entertaining characters... you should read it!

Wash your hands

When I was little my dad taught me how to wash my hands, singing Yankee Doodle Went to Town the whole time. Well, guess what? It really is important to wash those little patties. Today in school we learned why. Our teacher gave us some hand lotion that, when applied, glows under the dark light. After applying the lotion, we washed our hands using the best techniques that we had learned prior to this experiment, and when we put our "squeaky clean" hands back under the light you wouldn't believe the glow that still emanated from our hands! So, believe me, you really should wash your hands!

Teacher

Today I did something I have never done before: I taught piano lessons. There is a family that lives at camp with four young children and I taught the two oldest kids today. It was right back to the good old days of counting, recounting and counting again. It was the sight reading with mess ups and the retries, and I found myself in the seat of encourager and instructor, trying to find that balance between encouraging and instructing... who would have thought... I never would have!

Adventure

Hanna Andersson is one of my favorite catalogues to look through. The problem is that's about all you can do! The other day the SPRING catalogue came in the mail and I found a very pretty women's collection. They all looked "sewable", so I am starting on an adventure to see if I can successfully imitate their collection. Last night I made a pair of navy blue jersy knit pants (originally $68, my cost $9). Sew, the Adventure is underway!

Party

Our last Pioneer clubs and what's more fun than a party, right? Well, along with our normal class time we are having a special snack and some gifts! I think the girls will really like it, and you can still pray that they would be responsive to God's Word. His Word truly is living and active.

Today's Psalm

Lord, who shall sojourn in your tent?
Who shall dwell on your holy hill?
He who walks blamelessly and does what is right
and speaks truth in his heart;
who does not slander with his tongue
and does no evil to his neighbor,
nor takes up a reproach against his friend;
in whose eyes a vile person is despised,
but who honors those who fear the Lord;
who swears to his own hurt and does not change;
who does not put out his money at interest
and does not take a bribe against the innocent.
He who does these things shall never be moved.

Saturday nights

When I was little, my sister and I used to take baths on Saturday night, get all squeaky clean, brush our teeth, comb our hair, put on our fuzzy pink bathrobes and go sit in front of the TV. What were we waiting for? The Laurence Welk Show of course! We used to love to make fun of it: the orange suits, the big hair, the funny microphones, the face scenes, the jiggling jowls, the "seventiesness" of it all. However, I did like it when these four girls sang. I thought they were so pretty and I liked the way they harmonized with each other. I haven't watched the show in a long time, but I was thinking about maybe taking a bath tomorrow night brushing my teeth and combing my hair, putting my bathrobe on and sitting down in front of the TV to watch The Laurence Welk Show.

Let it Snow!

I am so glad I posted that last post because guess what? We got Snow! Lots of it too. I am so happy. So happy. So happy. It makes me want to go out and get in shape on the trails.

Winter?

So, I really did purchase this coat. I had in mind those extremely cold winter days when I go to school managing to be cold even in my Columbia coat. This coat is very warm, knee length, down, fur hood...etc. So yesterday I wore it to school for my first day.... it was 40 degrees. Hmmmm
I hope we get winter soon!

School

Today I started my Certified Nurses Assistant (CNA) program. I am very excited to learn all about taking blood pressure, temperature, making beds, brushing teeth, giving baths, talking with and caring for the elderly. I know it may not sound enchanting but it is wonderful to finally start doing some hands on, practical things. Plus, the room that we are meeting in looks like a simulated hospital floor, all decked out with mannequins, equipment and all!
I suppose technically a Candy Striper was a non-medical assistant but hey!

Bunnies and Girls

It always impresses me what you can find on the internet! This is exactly what my little girls and I made yesterday in clubs. They are little rabbits made out of washcloths with a bar of soap in them. The eyes are little googly glue on eyes, and the nose and tail are pom-poms. It was a lot of fun to make them, and the girls LOVED them afterward. However, I think the best part was having my dear friend Judy come and teach us how to make these little cute bundles. Judy taught me almost everything I know how to do that's crafty, so it's fun for me to see a new group of girls learning from her. Thanks Judy!
Thanks also for praying along with me yesterday. I think the girls were quite receptive to God's Word and you can pray with me again (a little bit more notice this time) for next week, which is our last time together. I will be giving them each a Bible and Fruit of the Spirit cards. I hope to help them know some good places to start reading and memorizing and you can pray that they will not be discouraged with their efforts. Please pray particularly for one of the girls who comes from a very very tough background and is quite needy, how much we all need God's help!

~Cherry~

Club Day!

Today's subject at clubs is...
I know it is cliche, but it is one of the Fruits of the Spirit, so I don't really want to exclude it just because it is... well you know... cliche. The trick is to tie it back to Christ, and use it as a jumping pad for the Gospel. I know it's today, but if you read this before 3:30 monday, would you pray that the girls are impressed with the importance of the Gospel in their own lives and their need for the Jesus? Thanks for caring, with love, Cherry

Today's Psalm

1 LORD, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!
   You have set your glory
   in the heavens.
2 Through the praise of children and infants
you have established a stronghold against your enemies,
to silence the foe and the avenger.
3 When I consider your heavens,
   the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars,
which you have set in place,
4 what is mankind that you are mindful of them,
human beings that you care for them?[c]
5 You have made them[d] a little lower than the angels[e]
and crowned them[f] with glory and honor.
6 You made them rulers over the works of your hands;
you put everything under their[g] feet:
7 all flocks and herds,
and the animals of the wild,
8 the birds in the sky,
and the fish in the sea,
all that swim the paths of the seas.
 9 LORD, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!

Summer Camp Counselors

It's a wonderful thing to live at a camp. It's even more wonderful when the former summer staff come back for  a visit, such was this weekend, when many of last summer's staff and other college students came back to camp for a retreat weekend. I like friends. I have many beautiful and sweet friends that love the Lord and show his love to those around them, it is a beautiful thing!

Christmas Break

One thing about Christmas break is that you get to do things you don't normally get to. Such as watching the Dick Van Dyke show. I had never seen it before this time off school but I sure have enjoyed it. I like it because it's good clean fun and you don't have to worry about hitting the mute or switching channels. Plus, It's always fun to discover something new!

Hair

I wonder how people today would react to ladies being so dolled up. It's not that women have stopped caring about their looks, but in a very different way. I was just thinking about this while I was looking through our old patterns, and saw the hair styles and different way of dressing. So long, ~Cherry~

Slacks

Can you tell that I am on a sewing kick, and a vintage one at that? well, my night-gown is done except for the buttons, and so it is time to chose another project. I really like these pants and I think that I will make them as soon as I get some material! I might even make the whole out-fit, who knows.

Sew...

Hello everyone! It's been a long time. I thought I would show you what I'm up to, yes, this is the EXACT pattern I am making, not just a good likeness, the real thing! I am making it out of a pretty pink stripe with little flowers in the white stripe. Classy, I'll be sleeping well in the new year. Sew long friends,
