I have been doing some computer shopping lately, as I will need to have my own device to write papers on and do other such studious things in the near future. However, I soon became shocked to learn how much you can spend on such a contraption and a little voice whispered in my head "remember your old blue Royal typewriter? Save hundreds and reuse". The thrifty side of me listened, and last night I got out my old blue Royal typewriter and looked it over. I think I could do it ... yes. For decades students used their old trusty typewriters to write their long and many drafts of papers until suddenly this thing came along called a computer and changed the world. But, thousands of people functioned without a computer and I think I could too, if I wasn't such a wimp. So, maybe I should bone up and over come the wimp side of me, listen to the thrifty and use that old blue Royal typewriter. Or, maybe I should listen to the wimp side and buy a computer (after all, you can't update a blog on a typewriter).

Patience
If you haven't guessed it by now, this week's Fruit of the Spirit is Patience. It didn't seem to surprise me either that this was the first week of Pioneer Clubs that the girls really tried my patience. Funny isn't it? I think I felt more like these chickens, "Lord I don't want to have to work on this right now, I don't have time, please just give me patience NOW!" Learning..... that's a lot harder somehow, I guess because it's work. It was a good time though, and the girls love having Judy do the craft (so do I). It was fun.

Let the shopping begin!
I hope that you had a wonderful Thanksgiving time with all the delightful traditions involved. Our gathering was a special treat with lots of food involved. We also skipped out on the Black Friday hullabaloo and decided to celebrate National listening day instead (look it up, it's a fact!). Now that Thanksgiving is over, however, I say..... Let the shopping begin!

Peace
This thing of teaching Pioneer Clubs seems to be God's way of gently teaching me things. This week's lesson was on peace. When I first thought about teaching this lesson, I wasn't sure how to talk about it with fourth-graders. However, when I began to search it out more I started to think of it more as a lack of worry. This way of thinking about peace is so different than just thinking of it as a warm fuzzy "all get along" kind of way that the world portrays it as. I am a very good person at justifying my worry. I can come up with all kinds of good excused to make my plain and simple anxiety look like a deserved attitude. This is not right, and if I am claiming to have the Spirit living in me, I think I should let Him take control and evidence his work in my life. The Fruit of the Spirit - you know!

Wonderful
Yesterday we got our first real dose of snow! It was beautiful as it came down in large fluffy clumps. It's interesting how a thin white covering over the ground and trees can seem so peaceful and serene. This morning everything seemed quiet and still. Isn't it wonderful the way God made the seasons to be so different? It's really wonderful.

Good Book
I'm sorry that I was away the last couple days, but you know how it is when you are reading a good book and you just can't put it down? You really should read one of those every once in a while. May I recommend one? Yes? well, here you go!

Nothing
I suppose that every blogger feels this way at some point - that they have nothing to say. However, I hope that you have a marvelous monday filled with joy because of Christ!

Charade
Last night, as I was coming home from school, a scene from the movie North by Northwest came suddenly to my mind. I decided to watch it while I was doing some rather tedious data entry for a school project, however when I borrowed it I found that it was on a VHS. Well to keep the story short, I ended up at the friend's house who loaned me the movie but watching a different Alfred Hitchcock - called Charade with Audrey Hepburn in it. It was fantastic - if you like watching people run all over Paris looking for money which turns out to be stamps, but I don't want to spoil it for you! (I did get my data entered by the way)

A poem for you
The rain is raining all around,
It falls on field and tree,
It rains on the umbrellas here,
And on the ships at sea.
- Robert Louis Stevenson (1850-1895).

Joy
I am off today on another adventure. An adventure with four fourth-grade girls. An adventure for the Gospel of Jesus Christ! Today's lesson is on Joy. What is Joy? Where does it come from? How do I get it? The good news is that it doesn't come from me, Joy comes from Jesus. I can have Joy because of what He did at the cross on my behalf. I'm really excited. We are also going to take a look at Paul and Silas (pretty unbelievable joy, which confirms the fact that joy must come from God). So here's to a Joy-filled day! - The Joy of the LORD is my Strength!

Today's Scripture
In the year that King Uzziah died I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up; and the train of his robe filled the temple. 2 Above him stood the seraphim. Each had six wings: with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. 3 And one called to another and said:
2
4 And the foundations of the thresholds shook at the voice of him who called, and the house was filled with smoke. 5 And I said: “Woe is me! For I am lost; for I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts!”
6 Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his hand a burning coal that he had taken with tongs from the altar. 7 And he touched my mouth and said: “Behold, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away, and your sin atoned for.”

Sewing any one?
So, I am on a retreat weekend with the ladies from my Church. The purpose? To have a craft-filled couple of days. It is so fun to see everyone busily working in their own little corners, and to hear the soft murmuring of conversations, and the gentle hum of sewing machines. There is plenty of good conversation to be had (and plenty of food too!)
